Donor Bill of Rights

As a Non-Governmental Organization (NGO), we believe that donating is a voluntary act and that giving and sharing enhance our quality of life. Because we value earning public trust and respect for NGOs and their projects, and because we care about donors and potential donors making safe and informed contributions, we stand behind and support donor rights.

We acknowledge that all donors have the following rights:

1. To be informed about the mission and vision of the NGO, how the donation will be used, and the NGO’s capacity and intention to use the donation effectively in line with its goals.
2. To receive information about the board and administrators, and to expect that they will carry out their duties prudently and responsibly.
3. To have access to current financial information.
4. To request assurance that the donation will be used for its intended purpose.
5. To receive appropriate acknowledgment.
6. To request confidentiality of their donations in accordance with the law.
7. To expect that all interactions with staff representing the organization will be professional.
8. To know whether the person soliciting the donation is a volunteer, employee, or hired externally for this task.
9. To request that their contact information be removed from lists if it will be shared with others.
10. To ask questions while donating and to receive immediate, truthful, and clear answers.
